Our Business

Since 1922, the Hafner family has been farming in Syracuse, New York. In 1968, Chuck Hafner’s Farmer’s Market was created with the goal of providing quality homegrown produce to Syracuse and the surrounding areas. Since then the business has expanded into a 22-acre state of the art garden center and nursery yard. The facility boasts a 65,000 square foot retail space as well as four acres of growing ranges.

The key to our success is an exceptional team of employees, hard work, and attention to detail. Whether growing annuals, maintaining nursery stock or serving customers, each team member is dedicated to providing a quality product and service.

Temporary Seasonal Spring Positions

We are looking to fill the following positions for our most exciting season of the year! Interviews will take place beginning in late March. Most positions start in mid-late April and will last through our busiest months of Spring and end in late June. Weekend availability is required. Front End – Cashier FT/PT

One of our most important positions! In most instances, our cashiers are the last impression we have on our customers at the end of their shopping experience. We are looking for friendly, hardworking, and energetic individuals to engage with our customers and accurately process transactions.

Duties include: Processing transactions, providing customers with efficient and friendly service, directing customers and maintaining the cleanliness of your workspace.

• Must be able to work on your feet for entirety of shift and be able to lift up to 40 lbs.

Nursery- Sales & customer service FT/PT

Do you love being outdoors and helping people? Our nursery sales team works in all elements- rain or shine, helping customers to select the best trees, shrubs, grasses and perennials for their landscapes.

We don’t expect you to be an expert, but we do expect you to be eager to learn.

Duties include: Helping customers select plants, straightening and stocking plant beds, checking for accurate signage and pricing on displays, maintaining a clean and safe workplace

• Must be able to work on your feet for entirety of shift and be able to lift up to 50lbs.

Bulk Loader FT

Do you love working outdoors in a fast paced environment? As a bulk loader, you will work outside in all elements loading customers with our bulk soils, stone and mulches with a Kubota. Equipment operator positions require a valid driver’s license and you must be at least 18 years of age to apply for this position.

Duties include: Checking receipts and accurately loading customers with sold product, cleaning and upkeep of equipment, loading and unloading trucks, working in the nursery as needed, maintaining a clean and safe working environment.

• Must be able to climb in and out of equipment all day and lift up to 50lbs.

Local Delivery Driver Non-CDL FT/PT

Do you have a clean driving record and love to be on the road? We are looking for safe and reliable delivery drivers who are comfortable driving a freightliner dump truck and box truck to deliver bulk materials and nursery material to our local customers.

Duties: Safely and accurately delivering goods to our customers, cleaning and upkeep of vehicles, loading and unloading trucks, maintaining a clean vehicle and work environment.

• Nursery deliveries require heavy lifting capabilities

Non CDL Canada Driver – Enhanced License or Passport is required

Do you have a clean driving record and love to be on the road? We are looking for a safe and reliable driver to make same day trips to Canada beginning in late April and driving with us through May. This position requires long days with up to 5 trips per week.

Duties: Representing the company in a professional manor to our vendors in order to maintain our long standing relationships. Maintaining a clean vehicle. Crossing the border and patiently waiting through unexpected delays. Consistent and transparent communication with our buyer. Load and unload carts of flowers.

• Must be able to lift up to 40 lbs

Load Lane Attendant FT/PT

Do you like a fast paced work environment, physical work, and being outside? Become a part of our nursery crew loading our customers with plants, bagged products, and more!

Duties: Checking receipts and accurately loading sold product into customers’ vehicles. Providing friendly and prompt customer service. Helping customers walk product to their vehicles. Retrieving shopping carts. Maintaining a clean and safe working environment. Helping in the nursery with other duties as needed.

• Must be able to work on your feet for entirety of shift, in all weather conditions, lift repeatedly for entire shift, and be able to lift up to 75lbs

Helping Hands PT

Our helping hands team is crucial to our aim at excellent customer service. We are looking for courteous individuals who are aware of their surroundings and able to anticipate customers’ needs.

Duties Include: Straightening products, sweeping the entrance and exit of the store, helping customers to their car, loading and unloading product for customers, retrieving shopping carts

• Must be able to be on your feet all day and lift 40-50 lbs regularly.

Flowers

If you enjoy working in a fast-paced environment, are passionate about plants, and love helping people, this position might be for you!

Duties Include: Watering, assisting customers in making selections, deadheading, making sure the correct signage is visible, filling tables, sweeping, maintaining a safe and clean workplace.

• Must be able to work on your feet for the entirety of your shift, hold a hose above your head for extended periods of time, lift, bend, and crouch. Must be able to work in a greenhouse with extreme fluctuating temperatures. Must be able to lift up to 40lbs.

Hard Goods-Floor Associate

We depend on our floor associates to be a friendly and courteous resource to our customers and help to guide them in their product selection. Your product focus will be in lawn care, bird, water, soil, tools, fertilizers, as well as weed, pest, and disease controls.

Duties Include: Stocking shelves, pricing products, helping customers find products, answering questions, building displays, inventory control, retrieving shopping carts, and maintaining a clean and safe workspace.

• Must be able to be on your feet all day and lift 40-50 lbs regularly.

Living- Floor Associate

We depend on our floor associates to be a friendly and courteous resource to our customers and help to guide them in their product selection. Your product focus will be in home and garden decor, plant accessories, gourmet, gifts, and pottery.

Duties Include: Stocking shelves, pricing products, helping customers find products, answering questions, building displays, inventory control, helping to control in store traffic at the registers when we get backed up, retrieving shopping carts, and maintaining a clean and safe workspace.

• Must be able to be on your feet all day and lift 40-50 lbs regularly.
