Our Business

Since 1922, the Hafner family has been farming in Syracuse, New York.  In 1968, Chuck Hafner’s Farmer’s Market was created with the goal of providing quality homegrown produce to Syracuse and the surrounding areas.  Since then the business has expanded into a 17-acre state of the art garden center and nursery yard.  The facility boasts a 67,000 square foot retail space as well as four acres of growing ranges.

The key to our success is an exceptional team of employees, hard work, and attention to detail. Whether growing annuals, maintaining nursery stock or serving customers, each team member is dedicated to providing a quality product and service.

Customer Service Representative

Job Description

Chuck Hafner’s Garden Center believes in providing the customer with the highest quality, value and an excellent customer experience.  As a Customer Service Representative, you will set the tone for each customer’s experience both on the phone and in person. You will also serve as a liaison assisting customers, answering questions and working to find solutions to daily matters keeping operations running smooth.

Essential Functions

  • Operating a cash register
  • Coordinate deliveries and installations
  • Service wholesale accounts
  • Field and direct questions in store and on the phone
  • Process customer purchases and returns
  • Cleaning and organization of work areas

Required Skills

  • An excellent customer experience focus
  • Refined customer service skills, able to handle challenging customers in a professional manner
  • Communicate effectively and professionally with all team members and customers
  • Follow established department policies and procedures
  • Multitask in a busy demanding environment
  • Maintain an open mind and positive attitude within the workplace with a problem solving “can do” approach
  • Work varied hours/days as the business seasons dictate
  • Some understanding of processing information and merchandise via a computer and POS register system, preferably NCR CounterPoint POS is welcome

Physical Demands

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to hear and speak.  The employee needs to be able to freely access all areas of the store including sales floor, stock and register area by standing, walking, stooping, crawling, climbing, crouching and kneeling and lifting and/or moving up to 50 (fifty) pounds if required.

Required Experience

  • 6 months to 1 year of related experience desired

Front End Coordinator

Job Description

Chuck Hafner’s Garden Center believes in providing the customer with the highest quality, value and an excellent customer experience.  As a Front End Coordinator, you are responsible for organizing and directing smooth operations in the Front End department before, during and after business hours reporting directly to the Front End Manager.  In addition to the Front End Coordinator responsibilities, you will also serve as a Customer Service Representative.  You will set the tone for each customer’s experience both on the phone and in person. You will also serve as a liaison assisting customers, answering questions and working to find solutions to daily matters keeping operations running smoothly.  The Front End Coordinator has growth opportunities for a Front End Assistant Manager position.

Essential Functions

  • Assign or otherwise ensure all registers are properly staffed
  • Ensure registers, computers, printers and other essential equipment are operating correctly
  • Coordinate deliveries and installations
  • Service wholesale accounts
  • Field and direct questions in-store and on the phone
  • Operating a cash register
  • Process customer purchases and returns
  • Cleaning and organization of work areas

Required Skills

  • An excellent customer experience focus
  • Provide expert customer service when handling phone calls and fielding questions/complaints from customers
  • Communicate effectively and professionally with all team members and customers
  • Follow established department policies and procedures
  • Multitask in a busy demanding environment
  • Maintain an open mind and positive attitude within the workplace with a problem solving “can do” approach
  • Able to see the big picture, working through daily complexities achieving store objectives
  • Work varied hours/days as the business seasons dictate
  • Excellent computer skills, general computer trouble shooting ability, proficient in MS Word and Excel, email, social media and other current communication methods
  • Thorough understanding of processing information and merchandise via a computer and POS register system, preferably NCR CounterPoint POS is welcome
